Nutrition Support Program

At Sleep HealthCenters®, we can offer your patients a weight loss program individually designed to meet their needs.

Our clinical nutritional specialist will work closely with each patient and maintain an ongoing relationship to insure that optimal weight is achieved. Dietary and lifestyle modification is the primary approach. After a complete dietary analysis, patients are given an individualized meal plan. Frequently, a “Low-Glycemic index” diet is prescribed in conjunction with a diet lower in saturated and total fat. This type of nutritional intervention will help to modify the body’s hormonal response to food and thereby control excessive hunger. During the initial evaluation, patients meet with the nutritionist to discuss practical aspects of the recommended meal plan. On subsequent visits, compliance with the meal plan is assessed. Patients are also given physical activity goals to meet, to help maximize weight loss. Goals for individual, as well as group therapy sessions are outlined below.

  • Developing an understanding of hunger, appetite, and satiety.
  • Discussing ways to improve and maintain healthful eating habits.
  • Understanding the relationship between fitness and body weight.
  • Learning about planning meals and snacks, while being attentive to internal cues of hunger.
  • Maintaining the motivation to continue to make small positive changes over time including strategies of coping with stress and pressure.
