Accreditation

Sleep HealthCenters is committed to achieving accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for all our facilities. Accreditation by the AASM continues to be the gold standard for sleep programs. The standards for accreditation and the guidelines included in them were developed by knowledgeable sleep specialists specifically for the evaluation of sleep disorders patients. The standards are designed to guarantee quality and meet the various needs of referring physicians and patients, including:

  • Confidence that the highest quality of care is being demonstrated and the most skilled physicians are caring for patients
  • Clean, comfortable patient environment where dignity and safety are upheld
  • Knowledgeable, trained staff
  • Review of all sleep studies conducted at the facility by a Diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine
  • Quality assurance program

We believe that the importance of AASM accreditation and its requirement as a determinant of reimbursement will continue to expand. In many states, third party payers require that sleep studies be performed at an AASM accredited facility for reimbursement.

Sleep HealthCenters’ commitment to achieving accreditation is evidenced by our track record. Our sleep programs are operated in a manner that makes them eligible for accreditation through the AASM as soon as viable and all of our facilities are currently accredited or in the process of becoming accredited.

In addition, AASM Comprehensive Academic Sleep Programs of Distinction recognizes academic sleep programs that have demonstrated excellence though compliance with rigorous standards in the areas of clinical service, educational mission and research accomplishments. The Sleep HealthCenter associated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital was recently awarded this honor, one of only two programs in the country to achieve this distinction.

Sleep HealthCenters was recently accredited as a medical equipment supplier by the Community Health Association Program, Inc. (CHAP). CHAP is an independent, non-profit accrediting body for community based health care organizations. CHAP has regulatory authorization to survey agencies providing home health and hospice services to determine whether they meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation. And, CHAP is a deemed accrediting organization by CMS for all DMEPOS categories. CMS announced September 30, 2009 as the deadline by which all DMEPOS suppliers who have a current Medicare Provider number must be accredited. This mandatory accreditation applies to any provider who currently bills Medicare for supplies and products under Medicare Part B, such as Sleep HealthCenters.
